- Cleanliness: Before beginning the worship, the worshipper should take a bath and clean the worship area thoroughly.
- Preparation of Chandan paste: The worshipper should prepare a paste of chandan powder by mixing it with water. This paste can be applied on the Shaligram during the worship as chandan powder attracts Lord Vishnu blessings.
- Offering of white flowers: The worshipper should offer fresh white flowers to the Shaligram as it is dear to Lord Vishnu.
- Offering of gangajal or fresh water: The worshipper should offer gangajal or fresh water to the Shaligram.
- Conch shell (Shankh) blowing: The worshipper should blow the conch shell (Shankh) while facing the Shaligram. This is considered auspicious and is believed to ward off negative energies and placing a shankh beside shaligram is also dear to Lord Vishnu.
- Applying Chandan paste: The worshipper should apply the chandan paste on the Shaligram.
